Your Mulank — also called the birth number, root number or psychic number — comes from the day of the month you were born, and nothing else. The month and year play no part. Add the digits of that day and keep reducing until one digit from 1 to 9 remains.

If you were born on a single-digit day, that digit is your Mulank — someone born on the 7th has a Mulank of 7. Everyone born on the 1st, 10th, 19th or 28th shares a Mulank of 1, which is why those dates are grouped together in classical readings.

What is the difference between Mulank and Bhagyank?

Does this calculator use the Chaldean or Pythagorean system?

Chaldean, which is the older system used in Vedic and Indian numerology (Ank Jyotish). For the Mulank and Bhagyank the two systems agree, since both simply reduce date digits. They differ on the name number: Chaldean assigns values from sound and never uses 9 for a letter, which is the system followed here.

Are 11 and 22 treated as master numbers?

Not for Mulank and Bhagyank. Indian numerology reduces both all the way to a single digit from 1 to 9, so 11 becomes 2 and 22 becomes 4. Master numbers are a Western convention; the classical Vedic reading works with the nine planetary numbers only.
