What is Raja Yoga?

Raja Yoga (literally "royal union") is the most important group of auspicious combinations in Vedic astrology — the yoga of kings. It forms when the energies of power (the Kendras, or angular houses) and fortune (the Trikonas, or trines) combine, and it grants worldly success, status, authority, wealth and rise in life.

A chart with strong Raja Yogas indicates a person who reaches a high position and enjoys respect and prosperity — though the timing of that rise depends on the Dasha of the planets involved, and its scale depends on their strength.

How it forms: A Raja Yoga forms when the lord of a Kendra (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house) and the lord of a Trikona (1st, 5th or 9th house) associate — by conjunction, mutual aspect, or exchange of signs (Parivartana). The strongest are formed by the 9th and 10th lords together.
